Music director Mano Murthy interacts with NELE students, a centre for homeless children

Noted Kannada Music Director Shri Mano Murthy visited the Narendra Nele (ನೆಲೆ नेले ) , a center for street children and interacted with the children. Every month illustrious personalities from different fields are called upon to interact with the children so that they are inspired to perform better in life. NELE is an initiative of Hindu Seva Pratishtan,a premier Social Service organisation in Karnataka.

About NELE
NELE (Shelter)  a project of Hindu Seva Pratisthana was started way back in August 2000 to provide residential car to destitute children. So far, 10 centres have been established 6 in Bangalore and others in Mysore, Tumkur, Shimoga and Bagalkote. Over 260 boys and girls have found caring homes in these centers.
Facilities provided to the children at NELE include:
  • Food, clothing and shelter
  • School based education, cultural education & social awareness
  • Sports, Music, Fine Arts, Sanskrit and Yoga
  • Awareness on health and hygiene
Nele is a street children project where the children who once were beggars, rag pickers or child labor are provided shelter.

Purpose 
– Giving Shelter to boys deprived of opportunities

Background
 – In beginning Nele Narendra was located in Thyagarajanagar, then shifted to Timber Layout in Mysore Road and now to Laggere.

Remarks
 – Nele Narendra (Known by the Poorvashrama name of Swamy Vivekananda) is functioning since ten years.   It started with 15 boys.   It was started in the house of Sri Gangadhara Shastri at Thyagarajanagar. Later on it was shifted to New Timber Yard Layout building of Sri Satish Goyal, a well-wisher of HSP and who was a trustee also till recently.   From 13th June, 2010 it was shifted to the HSP’s own building  at Laggere. www.nelehsp.org
