Mano Murthy on his arranger/orchestrator Praveen Dath Stephen
http://www.stephenprayog.com/manomurthy.php
October 3, 2008
Dear Stephen,
I just felt like writing this letter to you to thank you for all these twelve years of your musical contribution that you have given me. You understood all my compositions/tunes/songs very well and gave it your heart and soul by composing fabulous BGMs ( musical bits and licks) and wonderful arrangements and orchestration. I could just depend on you by giving you my compositions/tunes/songs with the feel I was looking for and depend on you to deliver the best arrangements, orchestrations and the BGMs, the most unforgettable one of course being the songs of Mungaru Male and especially the guitar phrase an the solo violin phrase that you composed for Anisutide and your arrangements and orchestration for Mungau Maleye title song happy and pathos versions. In all cases the finished songs were so amazing. I cannot thank you enough for that.
Likewise, even for the background score, I could just give you my suggestive cues and the themes and depend on you to do really quality and outstanding re-recording or background score.
I consider it my good fortune and privilege that I had the opportunity to work with you and have you as my music arranger and orchestrator all these years.
Once again, thank you very much and I wish you all the best in your career.
With Boundless Love
Mano Murthy

Mano murthy on the background score for Manasaare
Mano Murthy is normally a very quiet person not given to an emotional stress during his work. Though he is completely involved in his work, he makes it a point to strike a difference between being involved professionally and involved too much with the story element of the film. But his experience of working in Manasaare has been quite different, says Mano Murthy. We quote his own words which describe his experience of working in a film like Manasaare and handling the re-recording work.
'Working on Manasaare has been and still continues to be a very unraveling and lovingly crazy experience. You always expect something fresh from good directors and producers. But something that makes you go crazy? I thought I was a very "sane" person until I saw Manasaare. I have now gone crazy for sure working on the background music for Manasaare. Don't know where I will end up when I am done with the movie. Perhaps in a mental asylum? This may all sound very strange but once you see the movie it will all make sense. I hope! My many thanks to Yograg Bhat and Rockline Venkatesh for giving me this 'Manasaare' experience' says Mano Murthy.

Gokula - A new project with Prakash (Milana Fame!)
BANGALORE: Director Prakash, who made his debut with the film Kushi, is all set to direct his sixth film Gokula. Its muhurat function was held at Sri Someswara Temple, Ulsoor on July 2. Vijaya Raghavendra, Yash, Pavan and Raghuraj are expected to play the key roles while Pooja Gandhi and Nakshtra are the female leads. So why only two heroines for four heroes? It is not that the two heroines are paired opposite four heroes. While Pooja is paired with Vijaya Raghavendra, Nakshtra, the daughter of veteran character artiste Sumithra and director D Rajendra Babu, is acting along with Yash,’’ explains Prakash with a smile.Prakash’s other films are Rishi, Shree, Vamshi and Milana. Except, the film Shree, all other films were a big success at the box-office. The film Milana, in which Puneeth Rajkumar and Parvathi Menon were the lead pair, ran for 445 days at PVR and enjoyed 100 days of success at around 30 theatres across Karnataka. His recent film was Vamshi in which heroine of yesteryear Lakshmi played the mother of Puneeth Rajkumar. There is no secret formula with me for the success of my films at the box office. I focus on the script of the film. I direct films based on the script and certainly not for the heroes or heroines, explains Prakash. The film Gokula will have Srinivasamurthy and Sumithra while Ravi Kale plays a local don. It may be recalled that Kale has acted in Prakash’s earlier film Vamshi. Why has he chosen Kale to play a local don, when he could have chosen somebody closer home? I like Kale’s acting. I think the script demands Kale for the villain’s role. It is not that local artistes are not suitable to play such roles but Kale is apt for this particular role, says Prakash.Denying the media reports on Gokula stating that it is a re-make of Hindi film Golmaal, Prakash took pains to explain that it is an original film and not a re-make of any Hindi film. It is all about four orphans and how they adjust with society and how they come up in their life.I can’t make any comments on the media persons who write about my film without knowing the facts, the director said.
Mano Murthy is composing music for this film while Satya Hegde handles the camera.

Neene Bari Neene - Sonu Nigam + Mano Murthy + Jayant Kaikini Album in Kannada
Production supported by Ashok Kini (NICE fame)
Kannada album Neene Bari Neene is all about Ashok Kheny's life and will have the Bollywood singer crooning to the tune of Mano Murthy. And oh, Kheny spent Rs 1 crore to make the album
Ashok Kheny has splurged Rs 1 crore on a Kannada video album showcasing his life and has roped in singer Sonu Nigam to play him.
NICE COMBO: Sonu Nigam and Ashok Kheny
Neene Bari Neene (You Only You) , produced by NICE head honcho Kheny's AKK Productions, also has top model Madhuri Bhattacharya starring in it. It will be telecast on TV channels this month.
This is the first time Nigam is acting in a Kannada video, singing to the tunes of Mungaru Male fame music director Mano Murthy and lyricist Jayanth Kaykini. Vikram Razdan has directed the album.
'Time is precious'
"The album is based on my life," Kheny, who makes an appearance in one of the nine songs, told MiD DAY. "It also has a message which I want to convey to my people."
"Time is precious," he said. "I had no time to spend with my children when they were kids. And now that I have time, they are grown-up and live their own lives. I'm alone. That's what happens in everybody's life. I'm trying to tell people to use their time well. Parents should spend as many days as possible with their children."
Themes
The experimental album also weaves in themes like father-son relationship, harmony in society, cultural heritage etc and has romantic scores like Neene Bari Neene, Baa Nodu Gelathi Navilu Gariyu Mari Hakide. Philosopher and social reformer Basavanna is portrayed in a song sequence called Namma Nad.
Shot in Mysore, Madikeri, Kaveri Nisargadhama, Bangalore and even Nandi Hills, it has original visuals of Kheny's life shot since his childhood.
Ideal team
"Kheny, Sonu Nigam and I had lot of things in common. The passion and thoughts were alike. And I roped in Jayanth," said music director Mano Murthy. "It's an ideal team and that's enough to make an album like this. It will be very special."

Olave jeevana lekkachara - Audio Launched
Mano murthy interview to Chitraloka - Apr 09
Where is Manomurthy? That's one question that every music lover has naturally. Because after giving some memorable songs and being at the peak of the career, Manomurthy is nowhere to be seen nor none of the films he has composed music for has been released in the last few months. Chitraloka.com exclusive chats with the music director about his disappearance.
Inspite of giving so many hits, Manomurthy is nowhere to be seen in Kannada film industry these days. Why? Actually speaking, it's nothing like that. Four of my films are awaiting for release. Among that 'Januma Janumadallu' and 'Olave Jeevana Lekkachaara' was completed long back. I think the producers are scared of the recent box-office fate and is waiting for the right time to release. 'Male Barali Manju Irali' faced some financial crunch and now they have come out of it and getting the film ready for release. As for as 'Mansaare' is concerned I am half through with it. I haven't seen a release after 'Haage Summane'. But I have been doing the same thing all these time. These year all these four films will get released after which I will start accepting new projects. I have not gone anywhere and I will be here for sometime.
You had to struggle for more than 10 years to make a mark in the industry. Now that you are the most sought after music director, don't you think your absence will hamper your future prospects?
I don't think the listener have forgotten me. There is a big slowdown in the industry. The people have not only fortgotten me but a lot more others also. I have heard that the celebrity craze among the viewers have gone down to some extent. Even the producers are scared of releasing their movies or start new movies. They have the money, but I think they are waiting for the right opportunity.
There is a rumour that Manomurthy is too expensive. Is that the reason why you are not getting enough offers here?
Its completely baseless. Sometime back I heard a rumour that I am charging 65 lakhs per film. Forget 65 lakhs, I am not even charging half of it. It has never happened and it will never happen in the future. There is not an element of truth it. To be frank, the industry can't offer such a remuneration that too for just music. Only stars car charge such an amount and not people like us.
Manomurthy was always accused of repetations. What's your explanation about that?
I make concious effort not to repeat my music. Its nothing like repetations but its my signature music that sounds like repetation. Every creative person has his own signature. If we hear A R Rahman's music, we identify it because it has his signature. The same thing happens with my music also.
What happened to the music album you were supposed to do with Sonu Nigam and Jayanth Kaikini?
Yes, that project is almost complete and will be releasing by next month. Even the video for this album is also shot. Ashok Kheny has produced the album. Sonu Nigam has sung all the songs while Jayanth Kaikini has written the lyrics. The album is titled 'Neene Bari Neene'.
Many in the industry says you are not easily accessible?
Nothing like that. Though I don't go to the media myself, I reciprocate whenever they contact me. It is just a silly rumour that I am not available.
What do you think about the competition and music market here in Kannada?
Actually speaking, I don't know the music trend here. I am not following it at all. Once thing is for sure, and that is Melody is the king and nothing else. Sometimes there are some minor deviations, but as far as I know the people are always desperate for a melodious music.
There were rumours that you would be composing music to other language films also. Is it true? In case it is true which language are you working currently?
There are offers from Bollywood, but there is a tremendous slowdown everywhere. The inflow of the money has suddenly stopped. So, many of the projects are on the hold. I would like to formally announce when everything goes right.
What do you have for future?
Nothing actually, I will continue composing music for Kannada films as usual. But I don't want to be billed as a mass music director. I cannot composed music to seven to eight films every year. I am comfortable composing music for four, max five films a year. That too, I do my work sincerely. When they release is not my problem.
